Prep-Squad´09 Athlete Code of Conduct

  1. Athletes are to recognize that they represent the Newfoundland and Labrador Athletics Association (NLAA) and are to conduct themselves at all times in a manner which will not reflect negatively on NLAA or be disruptive to those around them.
  2. Team members shall meet at the team assembly points on time.
  3. Team members must attend all meetings.
  4. Team members shall join the team, fit, ready, able and willing to compete in their event.
  5. Athletes must compete in the event they were selected for, unless the Team Staff grants special permission.
  6. Team members are obligated to abide by the laws of the host province.
  7. The use of alcohol and/or recreational drugs is prohibited.
  8. Athletes will respect the curfew assigned by the team staff.
  9. Use of banned substances is forbidden, consistent with the Athletics Canada Anti-Doping Policy.
  10. Team members must inform the Team Staff of their whereabouts at all times.
  11. Smoking by persons under the age of 19 is prohibited. Smoking by those over the age of 19 is discouraged and is not allowed at the competition site, hotel room, or around non-smoking teammates.
  12. Underage drinking will not be permitted. Athletes of the age of majority may drink only with the knowledge and approval of the coach. Athletes who are granted this privilege, will conduct themselves in a strict responsible manner.
  13. The use, consumption, and/or possession of drugs is forbidden unless prescribed by a medical doctor and with the knowledge and consent of the coach.
  14. In competitions where drug testing is to take place (National or International events), drugs are extended to include caffeine, sudafed, or many other over-the-counter medications which may result in a positive drug test. It is athlete´s responsibility to know the boundaries or inform the coach of any medications to be taken.
  15. Athletes are to remain within the competition complex, hotel, or restaurant. The coach/manager must always be aware, and approve, of athlete´s location at all times.
  16. The authority and decisions of the coach is final and the athlete agrees to abide by this at all times.
  17. When not competing themselves, the athlete must remain within the competition site in support of their teammates, unless otherwise authorized.
  18. Athletes must remain within their own hotel room after curfew and in bed after lights out.
  19. Athletes may visit with relatives or friends only with the written permission of their parent(s) and the approval of the coach/manager pursuant to team functions and activities.
  20. Athletes must have available and wear the NLAA team suit for all official walk-ons, medal presentations, and when traveling with NLAA.
  21. Athletes must at all times demonstrate appropriate respect for officials, coaches, manager, and other competitors.
  22. Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in disciplinary action including, but not restricted to, a reprimand, restriction of privileges, removal from the competition, being sent home from the competition, and/or suspension from the NLAA team.
  23. Athletes must be respectful of team members that they are sharing a room with. The floor is to be kept clear of clothes and debris. Clothes should be kept in the dresser & closets provided at all times and suitcases should be neatly stored in the closet. Regular rooms check will take place to ensure this is being adhered to.
  24. Any complaints by other hotel patrons concerning a member of our team will be dealt with immediately. Depending on the severity of the matter, the athlete may be withdrawn from the competition.
  25. The use of foul language and or offensive behavior will not be tolerated.
  26. The door to a athletes room will remain open at all times if there are any visitors.
  27. Be respectful of property. Athletes/parents are responsible for any willful damage and or theft of property from the hotel, competition venue, and transportation facilities.
