The inaugural road race event of 2001 was a monumental success as 104 enthusiastic runners started and completed the race. An encouraging mixture of new faces and crusty veterans were greeted with a beautiful spring sky, a fresh northwest breeze, and a well-martialled and comfortable course on which to set individual standards for the new season. Friendly comraderie amongst runners provided a pleasant backdrop to both the highly competitive, as well as those recreational athletes who emphasize fun and fitness moreso than skill. Indeed there is a place for both in our sport !. We congratulate all participants on their spectacular start to the year and we sincerely thank all those volunteers who are a major reason we continue to thrive as a sport. Simply an excellent beginning all around !!
