Athletics for Life
This short electronic video illustrates that Track and Field provides the foundation of almost all other sports and by extension underscores the potential value of this sport in the development of fundamental human movement capacities in all citizens.
Children who learn fundamental running, jumping and throwing movement skills through Track and Field acquire a strong foundation for success in all other sports and physical activities. This is the value of the sport of Athletics - preparing Canadians for a lifetime of excellence and diversity in active living.
Run, Jump, Throw (RJT) is Athletics Canada´s official grassroots program of physical activity for children and youth. This FUNdamentals program teaches the technical skill progressions for track and field events for boys and girls ages 6-12.
RJT contributes to the development of fundamental motor skills such as running, jumping, and throwing through a series of lessons that focus on skill acquisition, sport education and participatory/team competition.
The program is designed to give children a strong background in sport skills that will serve them well in other sports and throughout their lives. No matter what sport of physical endeavour children attempt in their lifetime, the mechanics of running, jumping, and/or throwing will inevitably come into play.
Run Jump Throw program focuses on:
- a fun and active learning environment
- individual improvement and positive reinforcement
- developing the skills of running, jumping and throwing in age appropriate sequential progressions
- improvement in physical and emotional well-being
- safety and certified instruction
