The Province of Prince Edward Island will host the 2009 Canada Summer Games, August 15-29. The Prep-Squad´09 is an NLAA developmental program to identify and support track and field athletes with great prospects to make the NLAA 2009 Canada Summer Games team.
In an effort to raise funds to assist training and travel to out-of-province competitions, the NLAA, athletes, and their parents are organizing three road races in St. John´s this summer. Your participation in the Burton´s Pond 5km Road Race will contribute to raising funds to send these promising group of young track and field athletes to track and field meets in Ontario and Nova Scotia as part of their training program.
Our next two road race hosting events will be June 20, 2009 for the Molson Canadian 10km Road Race and August 16, 2009 for the Quidi Vidi 5km Road Race.

Important:
It is the responsibility of each participant to be familiar with the race course. Please see further below for course description and map. It will be very unfortunate if runners miss a turn or get off course! Race Director, course marshals/security personnel, event organizers, volunteers are not responsible for runners getting lost or veer off course.

- Fee: $20.00 ($15.00 NLAA members) Race Registration Fee includes $5.00 traffic/medical/team Timex surcharge. Entry fee for non-NLAA members includes $5 One Day Race Permit
Location: Toyota Plaza, 73 Kenmount Road, St. John´s, - Thursday, April 30 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Location: Sunday, May 3, 2009, 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., Arts and Culture Centre.

One Day Permit or Membership Fee: Make Cheques Payable to NLAA or Newfoundland and Labrador Athletics Association.

- Race Start Time - 9:00 a.m. Sunday, May 3, 2009, St. John´s
- Eligibility
- The race is open to paid-up or one-day members of the Newfoundland and Labrador Athletics Association (NLAA). Runners not yet registered for 2009 can obtain NLAA memberships at race registration desk prior to entry into the race. Annual NLAA Road Race membership is $25.00. One-day membership is $5.00. Registration for NLAA can also be done at Toyota Plaza at time of race pre-registration.
- Timex Provincial Series
- The is race # 1 of the Timex® Provincial Road Race Series, where runners are awarded points according to their finishing positions, and score these points leading to year-end awards.
- Course Description
- The two-lap course on Burton´s Pond Road facing the CSU Child Care Centre. Runners turn left on Russell Road, right on Elizabeth Avenue, Westerland Road, Irwin´s Road and Livyers´ Road. Turn left on the road leading to the Arts & Culture Centre Archway, then turn right to Burton´s Pond Road. Run a second lap, and finish on Burton´s Pond Road 200 metres past the Corte Real Building.
- Awards

- Medals will be awarded to the first three male and female finishers in each of seven age groups (Under 20, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 & over)
- Seven Timex® watches will be drawn from a list of all finishers.
- Merchandise prizes.
- Refreshments
- Post-race refreshments will be available to runners and officials at the Awards Presentation at the Arts and Culture Centre.
