Terms of Reference for Legion Provincial Selection Meet - Selection Criteria of Athletes
Standards for the Selection of Athletes are set by the NLAA Technical Director and approved by the chairman or the Legion Track and Field Committee.
The age of athletes for the selection to the Provincial command Track & Field Team must be thirteen to seventeen years of age (born in 2000 through 2004).
The NLAA set standards for major competitions (Canada Games, Junior Nationals, Athletic Championships etc.) and these standards will not be softened for athletes ages of thirteen to seventeen, who are Legion age athletes.
All athletes must attend Legion Provincial Track & Field Meet to be eligible for selection to the team. Exceptions to this at approval of the Chairman and Committee of the Legion Track & Field Committee.
For selection to the Team, the athlete´s ability to attain the standards (or percentage thereof) set down by Provincial Command Track & Field Committee and NLAA, his/her attitude, past behavior at previous Provincial Command and National Legion Camp and Meets and displayed dedication to the sport will be taken into consideration.
Meeting Provincial command and NLAA standards does not ensure selection to the team.
Further to and not limited to item 4, Provincial Command Track & Field Committee can select athletes to the Provincial Command Track & Field Team based on the athletes´ proven desire and commitment to Track & Field.
Upon selection to the Team, the athlete must complete the necessary forms required by Provincial Command and NLAA.
Upon selection to the Team, the athlete is to compete at the National Track & Field Meet in at least two individual events, not including relays. Athletes competing in the Combined Events cannot enter in any other event.
Upon selection to the Team athletes are required to attend training sessions prior to the National meet as requested by the team coach. Exclusion to this would be with the Committee´s approval.
Upon selection to the Team, it is recommended, if possible, that the athletes meet with the coach and chaperons of the team for a meeting before the day of departure to the National Meet and Camp.
Provincial Command Track & Field Committee, on behalf of Legion, must give approval to all selections to the team.
Upon selection to the Provincial Team, each member must sign a waiver, releasing the Royal Canadian Legion of responsibility for damages incurred by athlete while engaging in activities that are not acceptable to the Royal Canadian Legion while in attendance at the National Camp and Meet. Examples thereof are and not limited to the following:
Injuries to participants, participating in activities that involve "wheels on campus or off" eg, roller blading, skate boarding, being a passenger in an unauthorized vehicle. Such activities are stated in the rules of participation and the National Camp and Meet as being in violation of said rules.
Provincial Team members participating at the National Meet and Camp who wish to leave camp at any time must receive permission from the provincial chaperons and must complete the necessary forms required by Dominion Command.
