The NLAA will have limited amount of funding to support athletes attending the Canadian Cross Country Championships, November 25, 2017, Kingston, ON - Funding Policy.



 

Location

Bowring Park, located in the Waterford Valley, St. John's. No Change rooms on-site.

Location for race bib pick-up, awards, and results at the Husky Energy Pavilion near “Fountain Pond.”


Parking, Entrance and Access to the Park

Participants and spectators should use the Western entrance Parking Lot to park and enter the Park. Vehicle access to Bowring Park is limited to service vehicles. Vehicles are not permitted on landscaped areas. Vehicles access is not permitted during the event.


The Competition

The NLAA Provincial Cross-country Championships (Midget, Youth, Junior, Senior, Masters) is organized by the Newfoundland and Labrador Athletics Association (NLAA).

The competition is open to all participants born in 2008 and older (team banners are awarded the first place girls and boys teams in the Midget and Youth divisions only); there are no regional events, or any other qualifying meets, required to participate in this provincial championship race.

Only the 1st place NLAA affiliated schools/clubs can win the team competition. Students attending non-affiliated schools can take part in the meets and win individual awards. Schools/Clubs are not required to designate their teams since the first four girls / boys to arrive at the finish line will score. There is no limit to the number of entries.


Race Course

All races will be held on the trails of Bowring Park. The course is hilly, most of the trail surface is covered with gravel and crosses 4 asphalt lanes/roads. The race course is NOT suitable for using spikes. The course is marked with orange ribbons, flags, and traffic cones. Two loops of approximate lengths 1500m and 2500m.

Age-Categories & Race Distances


Note: Bantam event is not part of the NLAA Championship.
  • Bantam* (1500m) - born in 2004 through 2008
  • Midget (3000m) - born in 2002 or 2003
  • Youth (4500m) - born in 2000 or 2001
  • Junior (5000m) - born in 1998 or 1999
  • Senior (7500m) - born in 1997 or earlier (age 20 or over)
  • Masters (7500m) - born on November 4, 1982 or earlier (age 35 and over on event day)

All athletes are REQUIRED to compete in their own age classification (see ACXC funding for Midget and Masters exemptions) and may NOT move up to compete in another event (As per Athletics Canada Long Term Development Model). The YEAR that the athlete is born will determine the competition category. In the event that the athlete competes in an incorrect category the result will not be recognized. It is the school's responsibility to ensure that their athletes compete in the appropriate category.


Team Declaration

  • To be eligible for the team awards, Schools/Clubs must be affiliated with the NLAA prior to event registration deadline - 1:59 pm, Friday, November 3, 2017.
  • Schools/Clubs may enter as many runners as they wish. The first four (4) runners to finish in an event will score with regards to team competition.
  • Students from feeder schools are not eligible to compete for a school other than the one they attend.
  • Only NLAA affiliated school/club teams are eligible to enter the team competition.

Awards

  • Individual Medals will be awarded to all 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers in each age category for male and female.
  • Teams
    • Championship Team Banners will be presented to the 1st place teams in the MIDGET & YOUTH categories for boys and girls.
    • The winning teams (scoring members only) in the Bantam division will receive gold medals.
    • There are no team awards in the Junior/Senior and Masters categories.
  • To be eligible for the team awards, Schools/Clubs must be affiliated with the NLAA prior to event registration deadline - 1:59 pm, Friday, November 3, 2017. School Affiliation Fee is $25.00 per school year.

    $10.00 for Affiliated Schools or 2017 NLAA members holding Individual Competitive Membership
    $11.00 non-NLAA members (Entry fee for non-NLAA members includes $1 One Day Event Permit.)
     
  • JUNIOR/SENIOR/MASTERS
    Processing fee and HST applies to the meet fee being charged.
    $10.00 for NLAA members holding 2017 or 2018 Individual Competitive Membership
    $15.00 non-NLAA members (Entry fee for non-NLAA members includes $5 One Day Event Permit.)

Race Number Pickup

Race kit pickup at race site: 10:15 am - 11:15 am., Saturday, November 4 at Husky Energy Pavilion near “Fountain Pond.”
